The construction of the Moore Park South public park is continuing into its next phase, with fencing for construction about to go up.

Temporary fencing is being installed this week, ahead of construction and earthworks beginning.

This phase of construction on the park is expected to be completed by mid-2027. It will include community spaces, play spaces, a natural amphitheatre, and more.

The entire 20-hectare park is expected to be completed in 2028 and will provide necessary leisure and community spaces for everyone to enjoy. More green spaces for people to enjoy is needed more than ever, especially since 790,000 people are expected to live within five kilometres of the Moore Park South by 2041.

Once completed the new park and the attached golf course will include a nature playground, a full-sized community sports field, large picnic areas, new amenities, outdoor fitness equipment, new pathways, and more.

“Moore Park South is the backyard for thousands of Sydney residents and is becoming a more popular park to visit by the day. The addition of these facilities will make it even better,” said Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully.

“With more people calling inner Sydney home, it’s vital that we make the most of our public land and create welcoming, accessible spaces that support healthier, more connected communities. Moore Park South is the backyard for thousands of Sydney residents and is becoming a more popular park to visit by the day. The addition of these facilities will make it even better.”

Earlier backlash over Moore Park South

As a result of the construction of the new public park, the golf course has been reduced from 18-holes to ten, which led to backlash earlier in the year.

In May, Moore Park Golf Club deputy president Jared Kendler told the Sydney Morning Herald in May that staff were “bitterly disappointed” by the choice to not keep the 18-hole park.

However, the golfers have been promised that a minimum of nine holes will be available during the construction, until the 12-hole course opens in 2027. That course has been devised by Golf NSW and golf architect Harley Kruse.

The future facilities of the public park will also include an 18-hole mini-golf course.
