CONCERT: LORNA LUFT

CONCERT: LORNA LUFT

PREVIEW BY JASMINE MCLENNAN

‘My mother was the best mum she could be’ says Lorna Luft, who, as I sit with her in her hotel lobby in an intimate conversation, I realise is a warm, witty, opinionated and very wise individual, who has been there with the best of them and learnt the tricks of the trade from an early age, but who has crafted and moulded her own unique destiny.

Lorna Luft is performing her solo show Songs my Mother Taught Me ‘ A Celebration of the Music of Judy Garland, a multi-media performance celebrating her mother’s legacy in her and others’ lives, for the first time in Sydney.

‘Show biz is an interesting phenomenon,’ starts Luft when I ask her about whether she enjoyed the spotlight from such a young age, ‘it is not based on your talent or your experience, it is based on other people thinking that they know you.’

Lorna Luft, who not only has an extremely successful career on and off Broadway that ranges from TV acting to singing and stage, is also an accomplished writer with a New York best seller Me and My Shadows about life growing up in such a public family.

‘So what’s this show have in store for us” I ask, getting back to the topic at hand,
‘the show takes the audience on a journey. It’s a theatrical experience, the journey of how I grew up’.

If you want to see a truly talented, experienced and funny lady tell the story so many of us have lived through but none of us really known, then this is your chance. Songs My Mother Taught Me – A Celebration of the Music of Judy Garland is on for one show only at the City Recital Hall.
