Community applauds rejection of controversial Elizabeth Bay bar

Dear Editor,

Congratulations to the local community for helping keep Elizabeth Bay Road predominantly residential. The City of Sydney has rejected the DA for a proposed bar/restaurant at 41 Elizabeth Bay Road, Elizabeth Bay, after apparently more than 100 submissions.

This is a great result for the local community. The Council’s “Notice of Determination” for the DA states that the “new restaurant and bar(s) would result in a significant loss of amenity to residents that live in close proximity to the premises”.

Council gave the number of objections as part of its reason for rejecting the DA and noted that the “approval of the application would not be in the public interest.’

The 2011 Residents’ Association objected to the bar/restaurant and many local residents contacted us concerned about it. We are very happy that Council has listened to the local community’s concerns on this DA – but Council must listen more closely to the local community’s concerns with the overall impacts of licensed premises in the Kings Cross area on local amenity.

Dr Sacha Blumen
President
2011 Residents’ Association Inc.
