In one of the closest finishes in the history of the run, Ben St Lawrence took out the Sun-Herald City2Surf on Sunday August 8, beating Michael Shelley by one second.

He crossed the Bondi finish line in 41:05 minutes, faster than his run last year at 41:07.

Lara Tamsett was the women’s champion in a time of 46:54 minutes.

The men’s runner-up was last year’s winner Michael Shelley with a time of 41:06 and for the women Cassie Fien with a time of 47:51.

This year a record 80,000 entered the race, making the City2Surf the world’s largest run.

Olympian and first-time City2Surf participant Grant Hackett fired the starter’s gun for the 40th race and runners left the city along a scenic 14-km course to Bondi Beach.

The 2010 City2Surf set its goal at raising $3 million to benefit 500 registered charities.
