Citzens to arrive for BLYMP festival

The BLYMP under 18s music festival is set to return to Bondi Beach again this Saturday.

For over 20 years, WAYS services in Bondi Beach has been providing local bands and solo artists under the age of 18 with the opportunity to showcase their musical talents to the local Waverley community at the annual BLYMP music festival. According to Scott Bishop, organiser of this year’s BLYMP festival, “BLYMP was created to provide an opportunity for young local musicians to perform in a safe, supportive, drug and alcohol free environment.”

“BLYMP specifically caters for the under 18s crowd, so it allows younger performers the opportunity to develop their skills, gain some experience, exposure and generally kick start their music careers,” stated Mr Bishop.

This year’s BLYMP music festival boasts a talented array of new and old favourites, including Gone Electric, The Citizens, Go Mason Go, and The Dawsons.

For BLYMP veterans, The Citizens, who were formed in 2011 at the Bondi Wave Program, the festival provides them with a “great, fun night to play their songs to some mates and introduce some new people to your sound.”

The Citizens “strongly encourage” other under 18 musical acts to perform at BLYMP, stating that “it’s a great environment [in which to get] used to playing live in front of a crowd.”

“It’s most fun just being able to play a professional gig to a good crowd because being under [the age of] 18, it’s hard to find gigs,” said The Citizens.

The 2013 BLYMP festival promises to be bigger and brighter than it’s ever been. Asked what this festival brings to the local Waverley community, Mr Bishop stated that “BLYMP has been around so long that it is almost a local institution.”

“Lots of local musicians have started out playing at past BLYMP’s events and I think they would be happy to know that the same opportunities that they had are now being offered to a younger generation,” he said.

The BLYMP music festival will take place from 7-11pm at the Bondi Pavilion, with no entry allowed after 9pm.

Tickets for this year’s BLYMP music festival can be purchased online for $9, or for $15 at the door.
