Cinis denies drug supply charge

Leichhardt Greens Councillor Alan Cinis has pled guilty to three of four counts of drugs charges, but denied the most serious charge facing him – that of deem supply.

Appearing in Balmain Local Court on December 15 and representing himself, Cr Cinis did not contest the charges of possessing a prohibited plant, cultivating a prohibited plant, and possessing a prohibited drug. However, he pled not guilty to the charge of supplying a prohibited drug.

The latter offence carries a maximum penalty of a fine of $220,000 and ten years imprisonment.

Cr Cinis told media outside the court he would “love to talk for hours and hours”, but had been instructed by his lawyer not to comment until the trial was completed.

The actor and local Greens representative was arrested on November 9, following a tip-off and subsequent raid on his Leichhardt home. Police alleged they found more than 300 grams of “green vegetable matter” in a total of 12 plastic resealable bags during the raid, along with six plants in his backyard.

His next appearance is scheduled for February 2 in Balmain Court.
