A chef has been charged with the alleged murder of a teenager following an altercation in Southwest Sydney.
Police were called to a section of bush off Wilton Park Road on Saturday morning after the body of a teenager was discovered.
32-year-old chef charged with murder after voluntary surrender
Following a public appeal for information, 32-year-old chef Jacob Greig voluntarily presented himself at Narellan Police Station, where he was subsequently charged with murder.
It’s alleged that the teenager had been trying to get a lift home from a campsite when he approached Greig’s car, where Greig and a woman were seated.
The teenager is said to have told them, “I’m trying to get home,” as he tried to enter the vehicle.
Greig appeared in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday, where it was revealed that the teenager had separated from his group of friends near Maldon Weir before encountering a red Hyundai, as reported by 7 News.
Court documents indicate that police allege the 15-year-old attempted to open the door of a Greig’s Hyundai, tearing the handle off.
It is further alleged that Greig responded with threatening language while holding a “torch and a large knife.”
Chef threatens to chop teenagers hand
The altercation turned violent, with the chef allegedly stating, “I’m going to chop your fucking hand off.”
The 32-year-old is alleged to have claimed that his glasses were knocked off during the exchange, leaving him unable to see. He reportedly said he then slashed at the teenager before returning to his car.
Acting Superintendent Tim Calman said on Saturday that police believed the 15-year-old was a local from the Picton area.
Grieg ‘left teenager to die’
The magistrate noted that it appeared Greig allegedly failed to alert anyone to the injured teenager and “left him to die”, as reported by Sydney Morning Herald.
Initial investigations suggested the boy had been part of a group of about a dozen teenagers camping in the area on Friday night.
Police allege that the 15-year-old boy attempted to climb onto his attacker’s car but fell and crawled toward his friends. However, his body was not discovered until the following morning.
The teenager’s family was informed of his death on Saturday.
Outside court, Greig’s lawyer, Javid Faiz, told 7NEWS that if his client is found guilty, there is “a likelihood of a lifetime imprisonment.”
Greig’s family offered $100,000 for his bail, arguing that he is the sole provider for his four-year-old son and his wife, who is due to give birth next month.
However, his bail application was denied.
Local detectives, supported by the SCC Homicide Squad, have initiated an investigation under Strike Force Polda.
Greig is next scheduled to appear in court via audiovisual link on January 8.
