Charges laid over Marrickville brawl

A large brawl in Marrickville, involving as many as 40 people, has led to two people being charged.

At around 2.25am on Saturday, October 23, a party being held at premises in Arthur Street broke out in an argument between two groups of people at the intersection of Arthur Street and Illawarra Road.

Police allege their officers were threatened and assaulted by the group, resulting in the use of capsicum spray and a number of arrests being made.

A 22-year-old man from Petersham and a 22-year-old man from Marrickville were charged with affray, violent disorder, assaulting police and resisting arrest.

Police said no officers were hurt in the incident.

The Petersham man was granted bail following an appearance the same day in Parramatta Bail Court, and is scheduled to appear in Newtown Local Court on November 4. The Marrickville man was granted conditional bail to appear in the same court on November 16.

A 30-year-old Marrickville man will also be issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for the offences of affray, violent disorder, assaulting police and resisting arrest.
