Elderly pedestrian fatally hit by bus in CBD, bus driver charged

An elderly pedestrian has died after being struck by a bus yesterday afternoon in Sydney’s CBD. Today, a 74-year-old bus driver has been charged over the fatal collision.

Yesterday afternoon the 74-year-old woman was hit by a bus at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Goulburn Street, withs reports saying she was crossing the road at the time. Emergency services were called to the incident at around 4:25pm, where paramedics treated her at the scene for serious head injuries.

Woman taken to St Vincents Hospital

The woman was transported in critical condition to St Vincents Hospital, where she died later in the day. Motorists were told to avoid the area as two lanes of traffic where blocked while police responded.

The male bus driver from Dulwich Hill was taken to Sydney Hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Day Street Police Station where police laid charges of dangerous and negligent driving, and failing to give way.

The bus driver has been granted bail, as well as a license suspension, and will appear at Downing Centre Local court in January 2023.
