Bondi’s blue-ribband surf double
Bondi recently won the blue-ribband event double ‘ the men’s and women’s open rescue and resuscitation (R & R) titles ‘ for the second time in three seasons at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships in Perth.
The club is the most successful in R & R events in national title history, winning the open men’s six-person title for the 16th time since 1914-15.
The Bondi women became the first team to win the event in three consecutive years and equalled a record previously held by Coogee, which won the event in 1997-98, 1998-99 and 2001-02.
Bondi won seven medals at the national titles ‘ two gold, two silver and three bronze.
Its other medal winners were:
SILVER: Shea Delorenzo, Danielle Hoban, Nila Oppediasano, Jemma Townsend, Jennifer McMillan and coach Andrew McEncroe (women’s under-17 five-person R & R team); Lea Hill (women’s masters 55 years and over surf race).
BRONZE: Matthew Horton (under-17 beach sprint), Louise Santos (women’s masters 35-39 years board race; ‘Bondi Needs It’ ‘ Harvey Barratt (sweep), Peter
De Szoeke, Jason Vineberg, Matt Barker, Andrew Hoggett (men’s masters 120 years combined minimum age surfboat crew).
