Bondi wins Buckler to Bra surf comp

Bondi has again won the Buckler to Bra surf comp.

On Saturday March 21, surfers all along the coastline from Bondi to Maroubra took to the waves at Bondi Beach to compete for eternal bragging rights.

The Buckler to Bra is the surfing competition that determines which Eastern Suburbs beach has the best surfers. The crowd was asked to support their beach by wearing its colours: Bondi white, Bronte blue, Maroubra green and South Maroubra, red.

The first event was won by Bondi under the banner of ITN (In The Nude) Boardriders. The second Buckler to Bra was held the following year at the Bondi Pavilion. Maroubra was caught in a tie break with Bronte and after several rounds failed to break the deadlock, Maroubra’s then president Paul MacInerny and Bronte stalwart Azza Graham skolled beers to decide. Despite a sterling effort by Macca, Azza’s keen gullet took the crown and the $1000 prize money.
