Bondi Pavillion hosts local bands for under ages gig

Six Eastern suburbs bands – whose members are too young to play in pubs and clubs – will perform in front of their peers at an under-18s gig at Bondi Pavillion on July 16

A line-up of local acts, April Falls, Your Way Sucks, Charsonnez, Sweet Apes, Milwaukee, and The Shady Drive are booked for the Waverley Action Youth Services (WAYS) alcohol and drug free event called Bondi BLYMP.

Social work intern at WAYS Dave Bembrick said the event’s purpose was to give young people a safe space to have fun.

“It is an alternative to risk taking behavior, providing a safe activity for young people in the area,” Mr Bembrick said.

The Bondi BLYMP event runs four times a year to promote services run by WAYS. The not-for-profit organisation supports at-risk young people through public sponsorship and volunteer work.

“The gig is also about networking and educating young people about what the service is and can do for them,” Mr Bembrick said.

“We try and get people to come into our drop in centre or music events. They may then go on to get counseling or take advantage of other services we provide.”

Bondi BLYMP is at the Bondi Pavilion on July 16 from 7pm -11pm and costs $7. Doors close at 9pm. For more information call 9365 2500.
