Bondi ocean swim

The inaugural Bondi Blue Water Challenge ocean swim will be staged on the Anzac Day public holiday of Monday, April 26.

Hosted by Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club (SBLSC) and sponsored by the Beach Road Hotel, the event will be the final swim of the 2009/10 Hahn Super Series organised by oceanswims.com.

Swimmers have the option of entering either the one-kilometre swim, the 2.4km swim over a triangular course, or both events in Bondi Bay.

An elite category will apply to the 2.4km swim. However, the following age categories will cater for both events: 16-19 years, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 75 and over.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third in both races as well as spot prizes for race entrants.

The one-kilometre swim will start at 10 am and the 2.4km swim at 11 am from the centre of Bondi Beach and opposite Bondi SBLSC.

An awards ceremony will follow at the club where there will be a barbecue, liquid refreshments, music and spot prizes.

A percentage of the online entry fees will be donated to the Can Too charity.

Entry fees are $30 per swim (late entry $40) and $50 for both swims (late entry $70). Swimmers can enter online until midnight on Saturday, April 24 at oceanswims.com, by mail with Bondi SBLSC, PO Box 7007, Bondi Beach 2026 until close of business on April 21. Late entries will also be accepted on the day.
