Bondi lifesaver honoured with life membership

Long-service member Allan Scott was recently honoured with life membership of Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club. Mr Scott has held several management committee positions during his 49 years of service with the club.

Meanwhile, the Bondi club at its recent annual general meeting made the most radical changes to administration in its 102-year history.

A nine-member board of management, adopted by members at a special general meeting convened to consider rule changes, was later elected at the annual meeting.

It replaces the former six-member executive, which consisted of the president, honorary secretary, treasurer, club captain, senior vice-president and chief instructor.

Life member Andrew Winter was elected club president for the 2009-10 season with Jacob Waks as his deputy.

For Winter, it is his second term in the position, having previously held it for three seasons in the 1980s. He succeeds Rod Harvey, who did not seek re-election after two seasons in the chair.

The other directors elected to the club’s restructured management board are Leo Hyde (administration), Will Hardman (finance), Bill Measday (lifesaving), Grant Veckranges (surf sports), Ian Cummings (junior activities), Richard McDougall (marketing and sponsorship) and Colin Panagakis (education).

The past season was one of the most successful in the club’s history. This fact was highlighted by Bondi being judged champion club of Surf Life Saving Sydney branch for the third time in four seasons and its open women’s R and R team winning a record fourth consecutive Australian championship.
