Bondi boy Wes Carr took out the title of the sixth Australian Idol at the Opera House on November 23, beating Young resident Luke Dickens.

Carr, 26 said he was expecting Dickens, 25 to be crowned Australian Idol 2008 and was in a state of shock when he was announced the winner. ‘The feeling was unbelievable. I was speechless,’ he said.

Carr has scored himself a recording contract with Sony BMG, and is set to receive a new car and the first $200,000 Australian Idol Artist Development Grant.

A bookies and crowd favourite from the very beginning of the singing competition, Carr is currently promoting his first single ‘You’ and working on an album due to hit stores early next year.

‘I will make an album that I’m proud of because I will remain true to myself,’ he said.
Carr began gigging in Sydney at age 15, and said he has been singing since he was two years old. ‘I became a singer when I heard Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ for the first time,’ he said.

Over the next few months Carr plans to go on a holiday with his girlfriend, write more songs and release an album. Eventually he wants to tour the world.
