Bondi Beach street works up for public exhibition

Changes to a Bondi Beach streetscape that would include an upgraded extended two-way bike path have been submitted by Waverley Council for public exhibition, with eastern suburbs residents being called on to consult on the works that will be partially funded by the state government.

According to Waverley Council, the project for Curlewis Street will “make it safer for pedestrians and bike riders” around Bondi, with pedestrian and bike users being “balanced with vehicle access and parking”. The proposal also seeks to elevate pedestrian crossings with designated crossing lanes for cyclists, install six new electric vehicle charging ports, and create an “improved outdoor dining environment”.

As part of the public exhibition, the community has been asked to consult on two options for the shared paths and separated two-way bike path as part of the project.

Initial designs for the project were drafted earlier this year, with consultation open until June 15. Council says they will review feedback in June ahead of appointing a contractor in October and begin construction in February next year.

The public is encouraged to consult with council via email, post, complete a survey or attend an online information session.

North Bondi street works underway

The proposal for Curlewis Street comes as works on Glenayr Avenue in North Bondi began earlier in May, which Waverley mayor Paula Masselos said would “be beautifying” the eastern suburbs neighbourhood.

The Glenayr Avenue works are expected to take six months to complete, with designs for the works completed in February last year, with more detailed plans drafted in November after community consultation.
