This volunteer-run organisation celebrated its diamond anniversary four years ago and it is only getting shinier and more valuable. Spawned from a desire to get stray cats off the streets of Newtown and into a loving home, the Cat Protection Society has grown and diversified its services to include: education (for people); advocacy for cat welfare; assistance with desexing, vaccination, micro-chipping and basic healthcare; promotion of all things feline. Each year, the Cat Protection Society takes in about 1000 cats and, thanks to their no-kill policy, keeps the cats safe and happy until they can be placed in a suitable home. The Cat Tails page on their website shares stories about adopted cats as told by their owners. Have tissues handy if you go there.
