One year in, it’s happy anniversary to Anna and Dynn for this, their first bar, though they say: “We’ve been working in bars since they’ve been letting us in.” The Little Guy is the kind of neighbourhood place that feels like home – I could easily become a regular. We’re all offered birthday cake by one of the customers. The Rocks Brewery rotating tap aids The Little Guy’s craft beer following. My visit gives single batch Little Creatures. Free spicy popcorn helps more cocktails than I had intended slip down: Candied Old Fashioned ($16), Daiquiri on Crack ($15), Licor ($13). Like the craft beers, the cocktails change weekly. Wines by the glass are a decent offering and start at $7. Live music Wednesdays and Sundays – and every second Thursday night a DJ spins 60s-70s 45s.

“Wine is bottled poetry” (Robert Louis Stevenson) the list declares. With that, it’s easy to see that wine is the focus at Guerrilla Bar and Restaurant. Point in hand: the wine list’s categories are Sparkling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinto Gris & Grigio, Aromatics, Rose, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Blends/Other and Dessert. Try Yering ‘Village’ ED Pinot Noir Rose by the glass ($10.50) or 2010 Dowie Doole (McClaren Vale SA) by the bottle ($66.) Little Creatures Pale Ale, White Rabbit Dark Ale and Pipsqueak Apple Cider are on tap. The atmosphere is soft, warm, relaxed and a little bit classy. Forget all the boy band hype – the crush here is food, as Zane Heemi expands the (ex) Becasse kitchen team to cook up the grazing and pizza menus – heirloom tomatoes, 25 year old Pedro Ximenez vinegar and basil ($10) is just one choice.
