Bali nine dream of Bondi

Bali nine dream of Bondi

The death penalty is the ultimate consequence and a new play at the Newtown Theatre explores those consequences as seen from inside an Indonesian jail.

Bondi Dreaming explores the lives of three Australians who make the wrong decision and find themselves facing the death penalty overseas.

The dramatic play provides a touching and emotional insight into male bonding and mateship, and was inspired by the Bali nine who are currently facing the death penalty in Indonesia.

Playwright Sam Atwell said he wanted the audience to ponder what it would be like if it were their brother, son or friend who was sitting on death row because of a wrong decision.

‘How would that feel’ Those people aren’t just a news story. They’re normal people,’ he said about the Bali nine.

The title, Bondi Dreaming, embodies the play’s theme and has a strong symbolic as well as literal meaning. ‘Bondi Beach is where we all aspire to be and to live,’ Atwell said.

Bondi Dreaming plays at Newtown Theatre from September 30 to October 25 at 8pm. For more information and to book visit www.mca-tix.com.
