Art and About busts back into Hyde Park
BY EMMA KEMP Art and About will rock into Sydney again with an array of art, music and performance that will get the streets swinging.
As part of the annual festivities, the Sydney Life photography competition will return to Hyde Park. Sheet-sized images will curtain the central walkway of Hyde Park North in a display of visual arts nestled in the every-day environment of the city.
The exhibition showcases works by artists at all stages of their career, and the diverse collection of moods on show is enough testimony to that.
Adrian Cook, whose work Clown Doctors was chosen as part of the exhibition, said the event is a fantastic way for a good cause to gain publicity. As the work’s name suggests, his photograph depicts one of many red-nosed doctors who grace the halls of the Sydney Children’s Hospital preaching the cure of laughter.
‘They do such wonderful work for the community and the hospital, so I’m glad they chose it because it will put the image of clown doctors out there for the public to see,’ Mr Cook said. ‘A lot of people don’t really know about them, and they should get some nice publicity out of it.’
Judges will award the Sydney Life Prize for the most outstanding work in the exhibition, along with a People’s Choice Award.
The Sydney Life exhibition will be showing in Hyde Park from 4-24 October.
