LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide December 6th
Blondie: Punk and new wave pioneers Blondie are back and they’ll be performing the hits that made them rock icons during the 1970s. By the time the group first broke up in 1982 they’d released six albums and left a stylistic impression on popular music for years to come. Fronted by the ever charismatic Deborah Harry the group’s live performances are still wowing audiences across the globe.
Thu, Dec 6, Enmore Theatre
Abby Dobson: The former Leonardo’s Bride singer has been busy this year working on music for film as well as a Broadway musical, but she’ll be capping off 2012 with two big sets backed by a full band featuring family members Jake and Simon on guitar, banjo and backing vocals, and will be drawing heavily upon her solo album Rise Up.
Thu, Dec 6, Camelot Lounge
Kutcha Edwards: The Indigenous singer-songwriter is taking to the road to promote the release of his third album Blak & Blu. The Mutti Mutti storyteller was joined on his most recent effort by Australian blues masters such as Jeff Lang, Dan Sultan and Chris Wilson; all allowing him to deeply explore themes of life, community and struggle.
Fri, Dec 7, Good God Small Club
Fourtet: London born electronic, post-rock artist Fourtet returns to Australia to promote the release of his sixth studio album Pink. The eccentric producer’s sound incorporates elements of hip-hop, techno, jazz and folk to fashion diverse atmospheric landscapes through electronic sequencing and live instrumentation. Over the years, Fourtet’s been recruited to remix works by Beth Orton, Radiohead and Bloc Party and collaborate with Thom Yorke and Burial.
Sat, Dec 8, Metro Theatre
Sub Atari Live: The Melbourne three piece features members from the heavy metal act Mammal, electronic rock group MM9 and live jungle/drum n bass outfit K-Oscillate; and Sub Atari Riot packs the punch of all the aforementioned acts and more. The three piece have already built quite a reputation for being an electric live act and all reports are that their debut self-titled EP is an absolute corker.
Sat, Dec 8, The Factory
Regina Spektor: The quirky singer-songwriter is touring in honour of her sixth studio album What We Saw From The Cheap Seats. Spektor’s latest effort has been widely received as her best work to date, exploring several new directions with a nurtured sense of maturity. Other dates on this tour have already sold out or are selling fast so it’s best to act quickly if you’d like to get along to this one.
Tue, Dec 11, Sydney Opera House
