More than 100,000 customers are set to walk through the doors of the Sydney Fish Market this coming weekend for their legendary 36-Hour Seafood Marathon.

Doors will open at 5am on Saturday 23 December and stay open until 5pm on Christmas Eve.

Supply of Christmas favourites will be plentiful, with more than 350,000 tonnes of seafood expected to be sold this marathon, including 120 tonnes of prawns and almost 100,000 dozen oysters.

But customers can also find Christmas hams, fruit and vegetables, fresh bread, deli goods, and premium wine and beer.

Sydney Fish Market CEO Greg Dyer says watching the community come together to celebrate Christmas and enjoy Australia’s top seafood is something he looks forward to every year.

“We know that the cost of living is impacting many Aussie families, so we’re delighted to be able to offer the largest variety of affordable, premium-quality Australian seafood this Christmas,” he said.

“We encourage visitors to come with an open mind and menu, and let our expert retailers guide you towards the catch of the day.”

The Sydney Fish Market is currently undergoing a renewal, with the new site expected to open in 2024.

City of Sydney resident Katherine told City Hub, “The Sydney Fish Market is a well-loved institution that attracts people from all walks of life, locals and tourists included.”

“It’s a tradition for me to go there every year and get oysters and sit there with a bottle of wine.”

“I’m excited to see the new, revamped space next year, but just hope that it retains its community feel.
