Get up for marriage equality

GetUp, along with Australian Marriage Equality, launched their television commercial on Monday, calling for all Australians to be treated as equals.

The launch of their same-sex marriage campaign in Martin Place attracted numerous protestors calling for the government to address the issue.

GetUp national director Simon Sheikh said: “GetUp is working with AME to launch this national campaign, and we will be urging our 430,000 members to actively fight for change, so that politicians can no longer ignore the fact that all Australians are equal- regardless of their sexual orientation- and that their relationships should be recognised as such.”

To celebrate Valentines Day, a huge wedding cake was cut up and handed out at the launch.

The television commercial will air next Monday.

Man charged following drunken rendition of dogem-cars

A man faced a drink driving charge in court on Sunday following a drunken rampage during which he collided with five cars, including one police car, on Saturday night.

It is alleged the man was driving on Missenden Road in Camperdown when he collided with a silver Corolla at the intersection of Parramatta Road, pushing it into a red Pajero.

It is alleged he then reversed and collided with a taxi that was travelling north before driving through a red light and colliding with a red Mazda travelling north on Mallett Street.

This crash in turn caused both cars to collide with a police car.

Emergency services were called to the scene and treated a number of people for minor injuries.

After returning a positive roadside breath test, the 44-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station. A breath analysis returned a reading of 0.189.
