A teenage boy has been charged with the murder of a pizza shop owner who was stabbed in the chest on Tuesday this week.
Sonmez Alagoz was the owner of popular Kingswood pizza shop, The Pizza Stop and suffered a stab wound to the chest just before 10:30 pm on Tuesday evening.
The 58-year-old man was found on the Great Western Highway, near Kingswood.
Alagoz was 40 minutes from closing up his shop when seven teenagers allegedly confronted him. Six teenagers were arrested by police, from ages 13 to 19, at homes in Penrith, South Penrith and Werrington.
The teens were taken to Penrith and St Marys Police Stations and later released pending further inquiries.
Emergency services treated Alagoz at the scene before he was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he died around 12.30am Wednesday.
Police later arrested a seventh teenager, a 15-year-old who was brought to St Marys Police Station before he was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station. He has been charged with murder following the death of Alagoz.
Pizza Shop Owner’s Death a Tragedy
NSW Police Superintendent Trent King said the incident was an “absolute tragedy”.
“It was a confronting scene for emergency responders, he had suffered a gruesome injury and required immediate assistance,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
“This gentleman was very closely connected to this community for a very long time, including owning this business for over 14 years.
“This is an absolute tragedy, there’s no other way of describing it,” King said, as reported by 9 News.
According to King, Alagoz’s family were “distraught.”
The teenagers are cooperating in custody and no motives have been ruled out by police so far.
It is alleged the attack was random. Police could not confirm if a weapon had been found.
The teen has been refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Thursday.
Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage of the area is urged to contact St Marys Police or CrimeStoppers.
